Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD)
The CVD method involves placing a tiny diamond seed into a chamber filled with carbon-rich gas. This gas is then heated to extremely high temperatures, causing it to ionise and bond with the diamond seed.
Over a few weeks, these carbon atoms crystallise layer by layer, forming a new diamond. While CVD diamonds can sometimes exhibit internal marks or brownish undertones, they undergo post-growth treatments to enhance their clarity and colour, ensuring a beautiful final product.
High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT)
In the HPHT process, pure carbon is subjected to immense pressure and heat within a specialised chamber, mimicking the extreme conditions under the Earth's surface. This environment allows the carbon atoms to break down and crystallise into a diamond.
HPHT diamonds are generally of higher quality than those produced by CVD, as they typically require no post-growth treatments and have fewer internal flaws, resulting in a superior gem shown these engagement rings below:
