A Colourful Engagement!
When you're shopping for an engagement ring moissanites aren’t the only stone! If you love a pop of colour and want something different, there are so many beautiful gems to choose from.
We spend a lot of time talking about our beloved moissanites, which are truly fabulous, but did you know, we also stock a colourful range of gorgeous lab-grown gems? While some prefer a classic, colourless stone, if you want to add a splash of colour, here’s the lowdown on all we have to offer.
Emerald
Colour: Just like the Emerald City, emeralds are the most fabulous green and the shades vary, with the most desirable being a blueish, bright green, but there are many variants, some more turquoise, while others are more yellow or blue. It really all comes down to personal preference.
If you want to make a real impact with your ring, emeralds are one of the boldest stones we supply. And if you were born in May, emeralds are your birthstone. So whether you want to go big or prefer something more subtle, our emerald collection will leave your friends green with envy!
For many, green is a lucky colour – just ask Jennifer Lopez who says good things happen whenever she wears green! It’s also said to be the colour of new beginnings, which is quite magical for a new betrothal. When worn in an engagement ring, emeralds are said to bring luck, love, peace and hope – and we think that’s the perfect combination for the start of a wonderful life together.

Sapphire
Colour: Sapphires actually come in a wide range of colours, but they are most commonly brilliant blue. And when it comes to blue sapphires, medium or darker toned stones are thought of as more desirable.
Sapphires are one of the most popular coloured stones we sell and remain a steady favourite. Probably the most famous sapphire engagement ring is that worn by the Princess of Wales, Catherine Middleton and previously her mother-on-law, Lady Diana Spencer. It features a huge oval, 12 carat Ceylon sapphire, surrounded by 14 diamonds and set in white gold and is one of the most recognisable rings in the world. We have several styles inspired by this absolute classic, plus a range of other gorgeous designs to choose from.
A sapphire engagement ring is said to represent honesty, sincerity and faithfulness. Many believe they’re a sign of good fortune and will help steer the marriage to be a strong one. Although not quite as hard as a moissanite or diamond, sapphires are one of the harder minerals so are a great choice for an engagement ring. A diamond is the hardest ranked at 10/10, with a moissanite almost as hard at 9.25. A sapphire is just behind at 9/10 so it can still be worn every day and there aren’t many things that can scratch it. If your birthday is in September it could be the perfect ring for you as it’s also your birthstone.
Morganite
Colour: Morganite engagement rings are just stunning! These gorgeous gems are beautiful pastel peachy-pink colour, but can also be more purple in hue. They're a type of beryl stone, along with aquamarines and emeralds. The way the light reflects off its angles makes morganites extremely sparkly and a stunning choice for an engagement ring.
Over the past few years, morganites have massively grown in popularity for engagement rings and you only have to look at them to see why! They’re between 7.5 to 8/10 on Mohs hardness scale, which means they’re pretty durable and can be worn everyday. They’re said to represent sweetness, romance and love – which makes them a really romantic choice for an engagement ring.
Cleaning regularly with warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush will ensure the gem doesn’t look dull. Light exposure won’t affect the colour or clarity, but they do need to be protected from extreme heat to help keep it in perfect sparkly condition.
Topaz
Colour: Now, topaz come in a variety of colours, but its natural state is actually white/colourless. Trace element impurities and heat alter the colour and the rarest are red, orange and pink. We have a beautiful range of white topaz rings and but if you want a real pop of colour, we also have blue topaz rings and different colour topaz earrings and pendants.
Ranking at 8 out of 10 on Mohs hardness scale, topaz is a durable gem and a great choice for an engagement ring. They’re a beautiful and affordable way to have a really stunning ring that can last a lifetime and won’t break the bank.
Colourless topaz is often mistaken for diamonds so worth considering if you’re after a more affordable engagement ring that will still dazzle! Topaz is the birthstone of those born in November and is said to have healing properties and attracts wealth and money. Take a look at our range of stunning blue topaz rings.
Aquamarine
Colour: Predominantly sky blue or sea green gem, the colour of these delicate stones can vary from stronger greens to more solid blue hues. Aquamarines are another beryl stone, like the morganite.
Aquamarine is the birthstone for those born in March and is thought to bring luck to the wearer. They rank at between 7.5-8 out of 10 on Mohs hardness scale, which again makes them suitable to be worn daily as an engagement ring.
An aquamarine ring is believed to represent happiness, hope and everlasting youth and help protect those at sea. They also are said to help trust, fidelity and harmony – so just perfect for an engagement ring!
We’d advise you to always check the durability of the stones using Mohs hardness scale, to ensure your ring is robust enough to be worn everyday, with the best chance of avoiding chips or scratches.
