Of course, you can ask your other half to marry you on any day of the year, but if you’ve been struggling to pick a day, this could be perfect for you. And, as lovers of all things related to engagements and weddings, we think it’s fun to have another day of love and romance to add to the calendar! It’s also ideal if you want to avoid proposing on the more popular Valentine’s Day.

You may be thinking this is a new holiday invented by card manufactures, (or even engagement ring suppliers!) to make money, but you’d be wrong! It actually has much more romantic origins. It was created by John Michael O’Loughlin, in 1976 as a holiday for singles seeking marriage. He was inspired by his cousin and established the day in a bid to encourage him to propose marriage to his long-term girlfriend.

We love the fact the day falls in Spring, as it feels like the perfect time for new beginnings and new commitments, as the days start to get longer and we spot the first flowers of Spring.
